The Buried Giant + The Smokey Nail
“The Buried Giant” by Kazuo Ishiguro is a simple story of two elderly people, Axl and Beatrice, whom just wanna to see their son. So, they set off on a long journey in post-Arthurian Britain. But there is one MAJOR fucking catch - a heavy magic myst prevents them from remembering their son, how to find him, know their own pasts, and robs them of the ability to make any new memories. Kind of like magic alzheimer's. But, through adventure and danger, they begin to remember and change the course of their own history. A surprisingly in-depth and secret deep dive into the power of memory, hidden in medieval escapades and magic. Akin to thinking you are just gonna veg out on Game of Thrones, but then realizing that Tyrion Lannister just taught you the meaning of life.
The obvious booze match here is mead - it’s medieval appropriate and honey sweetened to help with the sour memories. But, instead I am going to drawn on the expertise of a professional and suggest a drink that is chock full of mezcal to help you have “magic alzheimer's,” but also smokey with a nod to The Buried Giant’s magic myst.
Smokey Nail
- 1.5 oz. Vida mezcal
- 1 oz. Drambuie
- Stirred, served on a big rock.
- Bunch of mint for looks and aroma
