Drinking and reading - two of my most favorite past times. Wrap your fingers around a drink and get lost in the pages of a book.

Upgrade + The Last Laugh

Upgrade + The Last Laugh

Upgrade by Blake Crouch is a humanistic sci-fi thriller that follows Logan Ramsay, a man living in the wake of his genius mother’s intellect and choices. Initially, Logan just feels a tiny bit sharper, a tiny bit smarter, and a tiny bit in need of less sleep. But quickly it becomes clear he is changing, and changing rapidly. In reality, his genome has been hacked and he is quickly becoming the next step in human evolution… but at what cost? (Published by Penguin Random House.)

While Logan’s altered state is the one thing that can change this tide of evolution, it leaves us wondering about the bounds of human potential and what we need more of in order to be a better version of ourselves. And, let’s be honest… what we need to be a better version of ourselves is bubbles - it’s always bubbles. As featured on Punchdrink.com, Abigail Gullo delivers an upgrade to the classic The Last Word with the artfully simple The Last Laugh .

The Last Laugh

  • 3/4 ounce gin

  • 3/4 ounce green Chartreuse

  • 3/4 ounce maraschino liqueur

  • 3/4 lime juice

  • cava, to top

Add the first four ingredients to a cocktail shaker, Add ice, cover, and shake well. Strain into a champagne flute. Top with cava and garnish with a lime twist.

I think she’s had too much to drink and been caught in a rare vortex of sentimentality.
