The Retreat slips you smoothly into all the promises of a luxury vacation and slowly threads its way toward a foreboding, no-escape, fight-for-your-life sort of vibe. It is all your worst vacation worries coming true, but with a rampant murderer on the loose as well. High Proof Preacher gives us a False Sense of Security and just the right amount of boozed-up courage we need to keep on with our bookish endeavors to finish this thriller.

1 oz Cognac
¾ oz Rhum Agricole
¾ oz Blanc vermouth
¼ oz Honey ginger syrup
3-4 dashes Root Beer bitters
Luxardo Maraschino cherries
Combine ingredients and stir with ice. Strain into a rocks glass
