Drinking and reading - two of my most favorite past times. Wrap your fingers around a drink and get lost in the pages of a book.

The Diamond Eye + Vodka Silver Bullet

The Diamond Eye + Vodka Silver Bullet

The Diamond Eye by Kate Quinn is another banger of a historical fiction piece that is right on target with intrigue, suspense, honor, and a wee bit of romance as well. Set in the 1930, Mila Pavlichenko is living in Kiev, making her way as a young mother who is studying at University and working at the library. Her predictable life is set upside down with Hitler’s invasion of Ukraine. Mila decides to join the fight and transforms herself from a bookish student to a lethal sniper known as Lady Death. As her reputation grows and news of her 300th kill spreads, Mila is uprooted from the war-torn front line and sent as part of a goodwill tour to America. Recovering from physical and mental battle scars and reeling in the limelight of Washington D.C., Mila finds an unlikely friend in First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt as she encounters old and new enemies that have followed her to the shores of America. Vodka Silver Bullet as seen on Difford’s Guide

A book based on Lyudmila Mikhailovna Pavlichenko, the most successful female sniper in recorded history, deserves a drink that is just as legendary. The Vodka Silver Bullet hits the target smack dab in the middle. While traditionally the Silver Bullet uses Gin as its main spirit, it just wouldn't be right without a nod to Lady Death’s appreciation of vodka. The Difford’s Guide steps up and gets us sorted.

Vodka Silver Bullet

  • 1.5 oz Vodka

  • 1 oz Kummel Liqueur

  • 8 drops Grapefruit Bitters

Stir all ingredients with ice and strain into a coup. Garnish with a lemon zest twist

Drink me, you darling little killer. I’m like a vintage wine—you have to swill me down before I turn sour!
