#DrinkupReadup

Drinking and reading - two of my most favorite past times. Wrap your fingers around a drink and get lost in the pages of a book.

Pachinko + Thyme of Our Lives

Pachinko + Thyme of Our Lives

“Pachinko” by Min Jin Lee is an epic generational story. The entire narrative hinges on Sujia’s accidental pregnancy by a married yakuza member. Suija and her family would be ruined due to her unplanned pregnancy, but a gentle, young Christian minister named Isak offers her rescue by marriage. But, this comes with a new life as a Korean immigrant in Japan. This sweeping family story includes four generations and their struggles in life, love, loss, identity, loyalty, and honor. This epic sucks you right in and you easily get wrapped up into the lives of Suija and her family. (Published by Grand Central Publishing)

Thyme of Our Lives

This is a tale that you can easily fall into and never emerge until you turn that last page. Luckily, there is the perfect cocktail for you to sip as you bury yourself into the phenomenal writing of Min Jin Lee. The aptly named Thyme of Our Lives has all the right ingredients to keep it light enough to track all the characters, but full enough to get you ready for some mishaps and stressors. Shake this drink up and get to being bookish + boozy.

Thyme of Our Lives

  • Muddle Thyme
  • 1.5 cl Vermouth
  • 4 cl Gin
  • 2 cl Simple Syrup
  • 2 cl Egg White
  • 2 cl Lemon Juice

Shake and fine strain

‘I like to drink. Drinking makes me happy. I’m very good at drinking.’ She laughed and swallowed a thimbleful of wine.
