Fever Pitch + Savage Love
“Fever Pitch” by Nick Hornby is a honest and very narrowly focused memoir of a man obsessed with football. His whole life can be counted by passes, goals, fouls, and matches - mostly at Highbury Stadium. His love of Arsenal far outweighs the responsibilities and relationships he has… and he knows it. In his own way, he is highly embarrassed, but never regretful of this. (Published by Gollancz).
In searching for the perfect drink, I was distracted by the football focus of this book and was reaching for a simple pint until I saw Savage Love. Fever Pitch is totally about football, but it really isn’t as well. It is about dedication and honesty and introspection. It is about being blindingly committed toward something bigger than you. A savage love, if you will. Upon discovering this beautiful cocktail, I could see how its name was perfection, but also how this combination of booze could help one do some detective work on one’s soul. Get this drink down and take a look inside Hornby’s psyche because all you want to do is be bookish + boozy.
