Drinking and reading - two of my most favorite past times. Wrap your fingers around a drink and get lost in the pages of a book.

Barracuda + Shark Attack

“Barracuda” by Christos Tsiolkas is the story of Daniel Kelly, a working class boy, who attends an expensive private school because the swim coach, Frank Torma, recognizes his immense swimming talent. Dan’s ultimate goal is to swim at the Sydney Olympics and thus he lives to train. Through culture clashes, bullying, and split lives he must win. In fact, Dan knows he is a talented swimmer and knows only perfection, until he loses everything when he comes in a disappointing 5th place and can no longer contain his explosive anger. Through twists and turns and one bad decision after another, we watch Dan Kelly utterly fall apart. Eventually, he learns to find his other strengths (working with disabled adults), accept himself for who he truly is, and to live a more balanced and less harmful life. While it is a coming of age story in many ways, this books asks the reader to really think deeply about the ethics of a society hell-bent on winners… possibly at all costs. Shark Attack

(As seen on Instagram via @captain_cocktails)

This profoundly gripping novel contains the human struggle to swim through the turbid waters of life and come out whole and, hopefully, a better person on the other end. What better way to steel yourself towards such an inevitable journey but with some booze based fortification? Dive into this rum soaked drink and swim in its murky blue liquid courage.

Shark Attack

Son, always answer back when you receive an insult. Do it straight away. Even if there’s a chance there was nothing behind it, take back control, answer them back. An insult is an attack. You must counter.
