Middle Kingdom Underground + Baijiu
“Middle Kingdom Underground - Short Stories from the People’s Republic of” is a series of short stories that focus on the seedier underbelly of China and the people that reside there. There are Sixteen stories that mostly revolve around sex, drugs, booze, and radical life mistakes. Lots of laowais doing bad things, lots of working girls living on the edge, and lots of bad life choices. A few gems in this short story collection, but much of it is just what you would expect out of something with “underground” in the title. (H.A.L. Publications)
The majority of these stories are people who are just wrecked in some way, and with it being set in China what makes more sense then baijiu? A Chinese liquor that brings drinkers the brink of madness with the strength and heavy tang of fermented sorghum. An acquired taste that requires no fanciness. Just pour the baijiu straight into a glass, gan bei, and get drinking.
Thank goodness this book is short stories… you won’t be able to read after a few glasses anyhow.
You need:
- A bottle of Kweichow Moutai Baijiu
- A shot glass
- Intimate knowledge of the shortest route to your local hospital
